App Update, Forkly 2.4: New Ability to “Love” your Favorite Places

10 Dec

Forkly 2.4 takes you beyond the dishes: share your excitement and praise for a venue with the new ability to Love favorite places and to tell friends why. More details on this below.

We’ve also added Verified Tastes (more info here), to confirm that tastes match where they were posted (to catch those pesky cheaters!). Plus, those of you who’ve had trouble with your Facebook login recently will be excited to hear that the issue has been fixed. Happy posting!

Here’s the official list of updates:

✓ Ability to “Love” a Place
✓ Verified Tastes
✓ Shiny new interface on the Rate Tab
✓ Addressed a Facebook login issue
✓ Bug fixes & speed enhancements

More details below…

Loved places appear on your profile and are sorted by their proximity to you. So, your local favorites will show up but your vacation and work travel eats will too, making your recommendations visible from one city, state, and country to the next.

A place will automatically appear in your “Loved Places” list if you loved more than five dishes at a location–you can edit this list at any time by tapping on the venue page and tapping “Love this place” or tapping it to remove it.

Finally, you can tell Forkly friends why you love a place. Best margarita in town? Love the fries? Great atmosphere? We’re all interested to learn your favorites and why…so share often!

Forkly 2.4 can be downloaded for free from Apple’s app store (or just updated on your phone). Enjoy!

App Update, Forkly 2.3: Facebook Timeline & Low-light Mode for iPhone 5

31 Oct

The newest version of Forkly is now available to download! Forkly 2.3 includes a series of updates to help you share more of your posts with family and friends and to assist you with taking the best food photos possible in darker establishments.

✓ Great photos in Low-light. On the iPhone 5 we now support the same low-light mode as the native Camera app
✓ Easier to share! We’ve added Facebook Timeline
✓ Newly added intro screens
✓ Bug fixes and performance improvements

Below are some of the details…

New Introduction Screen

As the Forkly app develops, we want you to be able to use it to the fullest! The new intro screens let you know how to do just this–and still leaves some playing around up to you, too. Plus, when you tell your friends to download Forkly, they get a quick tutorial on how to rate, want, and discover new dishes (as opposed to asking you, who’s in the middle of savoring a delicious donut!).

Facebook Timeline

Once you add Forkly to your Facebook timeline, your Forkly posts will be visible to your Facebook friends. This makes it easier to share all your food adventures–that is, if you were going to recommend a dish or drink to friends or family members, it’s already done! You can always control your Facebook sharing in Settings on Forkly.

Low-Light Mode

For those with the iPhone 5, we now support the same low-light mode as the native Camera app. This means that when you’re in a darker restaurant or bar, you’ll notice a significant difference in your Forkly food and drink shots. Take a look at the test we did when the new iPhone 5 came out. Impressive, right!?

Forkly 2.3 can be downloaded for free from Apple’s app store (or just updated on your phone). As always, feel free to contact us with questions and feedback. Enjoy!

Forkly Adds 2700+ Beers as the Guide for the Great American Beer Festival

12 Oct

If you or some of your friends are attending the Great American Beer Festival this weekend, we’ve added 2700+ beers into the system to keep track of your beer wants, tastes, and notes (includes beer list from this year and from users’ posts last year). An efficient way of recording favorites and unique tastes at the festival, the beers can be found under “Great American Beer Festival in Denver” when you search in Discover–and once browsed through, they’re available offline too (ie. if you’re having trouble with cell service within the Colorado Convention Center, you can still taste & rate on your Forkly account).

How to Make Use of the GABF Beer List within Forkly:

When you tap on an individual beer itself, it’ll show you where to find the brewers’ booth within the GABF hall:

You can also sort the list by beers you have bookmarked within the app in the past:

And beers you have tasted & rated in the past:

Enjoy! And don’t forget to take advantage of the UBER-Forkly Deal within the feed ($20 off car service for festival attendees!), the Great Divide giveaways. And if you’re looking for food advice (coffee, brunch, and favorite dishes) from locals, read the previous blog posts–we’ve got you covered! Cheers!!

Forkly Meets Dario Cecchini, the “Mad Butcher” of Tuscany

15 Sep

The highlight of the Denver Food & Wine festival last week was the opportunity to meet Dario Cecchini, the famous “Mad Butcher” of Tuscany– mentor and cherished friend to some of the US’ most notable chefs, including Mario Batali (read about Batali’s history with Cecchini in the wonderful book, Heat, by Bill Buford) and Denver’s own Chef Elise Wiggins of Panzano restaurant.

Cecchini’s family has run the butcher shop in Tuscany for around 250 years and he has been behind the counter for 40 of those years. Needless to say, watching him with a knife (or a saw, see the photos below!) is mesmerizing!

The takeaway from his visit: there is no part of an animal that is “better” than any other, so use every piece of meat and the bones and skin for stocks, and so on (some of their recipes here)–in doing so, we kill fewer animals and waste very little (which he noted is important when so many people in the world are hungry); make sure the animal butchered has lived a good, full life, so that the meat is pure; and most quarrels (even political!) can be resolved by a great meal together!

It was a great honor to meet Chef Cecchini and his wife (and translator). We hope you, too, get to meet them during their travels– or at their shop in Tuscany, Antica Macelleria Cecchini…they said their door is always open to new friends and visitors. Enjoy photos and a video from last weekend below:

A Whole Lotta (or Latte!) Coffee Art

7 Sep

Excuse the pun, but we wanted to share the killer coffee art that’s continuously appearing on Forkly. Perhaps it’s a sign of the growing trend of latte art in coffee-drinking cultures, but for us, they’re ultimately snapshots that make us smile– and crave that afternoon latte break to get through the rest of the day! Share your favorites on Forkly and we’ll be sure to spotlight them.
