Here’s our Forkly salute to an American staple that only gets better and more unique with time: Grilled Cheese. April happens to be National Grilled Cheese Month — in case you haven’t noticed already, there are festivals, cook-offs, and articles galore on this once-simple feast of grilled bread with melted cheese.
Take a look at Forkly users’ grilled cheese posts below… and keep ‘em coming!
Hungry for more?! Here are some contests and dinners around the US:
- On 4/28 at the Rosebowl in Pasadena, CA, there’s the 10th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational: “You cook. Judges vote. Everybody wins!” One of the previous winners, @grilledcheezguy, and @oldskoolcafe are hosting a Pop-up Grilled Cheese Night in San Francisco, CA in preparation for the invitational. Reservations are available for seatings from 5:30-10:30pm on April 14.
- Think you can make a mean grilled cheese? Wisconsin wants you to prove it with their 2012 Grilled Cheese Recipe contest (must use Wisconsin Cheese in the sandwich). It ends May 8, so get cooking!
- Not much of a cook? Not to worry, the grilled cheese chain, Cheeseboy, is holding a Cheeseboy Super Fan Contest this month. All you have to do is submit a video that demonstrates your love of grilled cheese. They’re also holding their 2nd Annual Free Grilled Cheese Day on April 22, 1pm-6pm.
- Also, if you see restaurants around your city celebrating National Grilled Cheese Month, tweet at us (or let them know to tweet at us @forkly!) and get photos up on Forkly! For example, take a look at LA’s Clementine Bakery & Cafe and their month-long celebration of grilled cheese with 15 unique recipes on their menu. Or New Jersey’s The Pop Shop, which has 30+ variations of grilled cheese (they were even featured on the Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay) on the menu and is hosting a cheese poetry contest this month.
In the meantime, send in your fave grilled cheese pix!
Happy Grilled Cheese Month from the Forkly team — and if you’re in any of the contests, best of luck!
