Our @JSWAuer will be in attendance and very excited the talk Forkly and mingle. We’re always excited to meet other food & tech lovers, as well as those who want to join the Forkly community!

We’ll also be having an unofficial happy hour at Crown Victoria in Brooklyn from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday. @JSWAuer will be easy to spot in her Forkly t-shirt, so stop by and bring other Forkly users or friends! Email her at jossie@forkly.com if you have any questions.

Now that we got the business over with… let’s look at some New York food!

Our Salute to France! Bastille Day Celebrations from Paris to NY to Seattle

13 Jul

If you thought the celebrating was over after the 4th of July, think again. Bastille Day–the national celebration of the French Revolution is Saturday July 14. If you’re stuck at home wishing you were jet-setting to France, check out these events aimed to amuse your bouche, or stay in and create some great French-inspired cuisine! And don’t forget the wine.

Events

On Friday July 13, Chef Michael Mina will be hosting a special Parisian blowout at his urban wine bar RN74 in Seattle, WA. The bash is expected to be a feast of French food and live entertainment. With no cover, guests can anticipate $1 menu items like oysters and French pastries, special themed cocktails and entertainment including acrobats, contortionists, and accordion players, oh my! Come dressed in your Parisian costume best and you’ll receive a free drink!

New York City  has been celebrating Bastille Day since July 8 with French Restaurant Week–and it’ll continue to run through July 15! Each participating restaurant was carefully hand-picked to bring New Yorkers the finest French foods, wines, and great deals for the week. Take a look at the website for more info.

As if you really needed a reason to dress up in your French maid’s outfit, now you have the opportunity to show it off in Washington, DC outside of L’Enfant Cafe and Bar. From 3-11pm, maids will be released into the street for a relay race accompanied by DJs and beer trucks located on certain streets.

Portland, OR will be dining al fresco at the Side Yard Farm in NE Portland on July 14 at 6pm. The four course meal will include dishes such as halibut with lemon verbena beurre blanc and crispy pork with rubystreak mustard greens and pickled cherries; and of course, wine pairings to match.

A.O.C. Wine Bar in LA will be hosting a special menu on the 14th in honor of Bastille day. Menu items will include goat cheese tartine and beignets with vanilla ice cream and bittersweet chocolate sauce.

Never a city to shy away from a reason the party, New Orleans will be ripe with celebration this Bastille Day. With fireworks, a French dog contest, and Bastille Day Dinner, it’s not a party to miss. While festivities may be dwindling by Sunday, travel down the French Quarter for the historic French Market where you’ll be able to enjoy entertainment for the whole family including French cooking demonstrations and some great New Orleans food!

We’d love to hear about any fun Bastille Day events you’ll be participating in–and be sure to post your French tastes on Forkly! Enjoy the celebrations and feasts–and Bon Appétit!

Tacos, Tequila, and More: Your Guide to Cinco de Mayo Weekend

4 May

Cinco de Mayo, or “The Fifth of May,” marks the Mexican Army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. Though it’s not as big of a deal in Mexico as their Independence Day (which it’s commonly confused as), it’s still celebrated with family get-togethers, dancing, fireworks, and lots of tasty food and drinks. Even if you’re not in Mexico for this celebration, you can still break out your oversized sombrero (we know you have one) and find a city around the U.S. showing their love for this Mexican holiday (and cuisine)!

Festivals around the US this Cinco de Mayo weekend & beyond:

Oh eggs-cellent, it’s National Eggs Benedict Day!

16 Apr

Here over at Forkly, we always appreciate a good Eggs Benedict–and today just so happens to be National Eggs Benedict Day! Even though there’s speculation of who exactly stumbled upon this heavenly concoction, it is agreed that it was U.S. born– possibly during the luxurious dining culture of 19th-century New York. However and wherever this dish came into being, we wanted to tip our hats to this breakfast dish with some great Forkly user shots. Take a look — and if you have one today, be sure to post it on Forkly (and tweet it to us @Forkly or on our Facebook or Pinterest pages)!
